Ashana Badlani, Founder, LMHC

As the founder of ANB Therapy, my journey from Dubai to New York City, armed with an Ed.M and MA in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University, has deeply shaped my approach to mental health care. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I specialize in mindfulness and holistic wellness, focusing on self-awareness as a foundation for personal growth. Utilizing evidence-based practices I guide clients towards self-acceptance and resilience against life’s adversities.

As an Indian woman, my varied background enhances my approach to therapy, enabling me to thoughtfully consider the different psychological effects of cultural, racial, gender, and sexual orientation disparities. This broad viewpoint, combined with my experience in both private practices and non-profit settings, helps in creating an environment where clients can attain mental and emotional health. Dedicated to ongoing education and comprehension, I am eager to assist clients on their journey to complete wellness, motivating them to initiate their journey towards empowerment and self-exploration.

If you are struggling with your mental health, you are not alone. Seeking someone to speak to is the first step to overcoming your hardest times. As a mental health professional, I strive to help individuals explore difficult topics such as their anxiety, depression, self-esteem, career or day to day struggles. Together we can work to develop coping skills, create positive ways to tackle the most difficult times and explore ways to accomplish any goal you set out to succeed in.

I am currently working toward my licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and currently hold a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC-II) certification. I have 4 years of experience working with substance use and severe mental illness in the non-profit sector. I hold a Master’s degree from CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Forensic Psychology and Forensic Mental Health Counseling and have professional experience working with diverse populations, cultures, religions, ethnicities, woman’s issues, trauma, bereavement and LGBTQ+.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic and mindfulness techniques in a non-judgmental, safe, and warm environment to work through your needs and tackle any struggle you may come across. Please reach out for a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if I would be a good fit for your needs!

I employ mindfulness and positive psychology in my coaching, focusing on leveraging your inherent strengths to address areas of improvement. My solution-focused therapeutic approach is designed to empower you to lead a healthy, independent life, equipped with the skills we refine together. I advocate for self-reliance but am always ready to provide support when necessary. Utilizing character strength analysis and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, I aim to help manage anxiety and stress. Our partnership begins with an initial consultation to ensure a good fit, setting the stage for a collaborative journey towards achieving your personal goals.

My background in social, emotional, and mental health is extensive, including a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Teacher’s College, Columbia University, a post-graduate certificate in clinical practice from New York University, and a post-master’s advanced certificate in mental health counseling, alongside my provisional license. My practical experience is diverse: from coordinating the first Mindfulness Camp in Romania in 2014 to implementing a mental health counseling program in Siem Reap, Cambodia, in 2019. My service also includes participation in the Montgomery County Public Schools’ Superintendent Socio-Emotional Committee during my Americorps year. I hold certifications as a behavioral change specialist and a trauma specialist, underscoring my commitment to supporting clients through their socio-emotional wellness journey. In our sessions, I’ll focus on goal identification, character strength analysis, socio-emotional development, anxiety and stress management, emotional regulation, and enhancing interpersonal effectiveness, all aimed at fostering a sense of internal control and behavioral modification for a more fulfilling life.

Seeking someone to speak to can be the first step to improving your mental health. It can be difficult, but it can be an illuminating experience to look deeper within yourself. Speaking with someone can eliminate the feeling of being alone, and provide you with the support you need to work toward developing coping skills and explore how to make yourself live the life you want to live. As a first-generation Indo-Caribbean woman, I have learned to acknowledge and welcome the delights and difficulties of a multicultural identity. One of these very difficulties is the avoidance of addressing mental health. My professional and cultural background have reinforced my drive to work with individuals who experience a variety of matters, including stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, depression, and cultural identity struggles.

I hold an MA in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Baruch College, and have taken part in trauma trainings intended for trauma-informed work. I utilize a person-centered approach to facilitate a validating, safe, empowering, and judgment-free space to help reach your true self. I am here to collaborate with you to create a therapeutic approach that seems most comfortable and effective for you, while ensuring that you are supported throughout your journey. I invite you to reach out if you are interested to see if we might be a good fit!
